Our client is an EU-licensed bank that builds modern banking infrastructure for FinTech firms, payment institutions, e-commerce businesses, and other digital-first companies. It blends solid banking know-how with a FinTech mindset, offering Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS), e-commerce acquiring, payment infrastructure, safeguarding accounts, lending, and business banking.

We're looking for a Head of IT Development to take full ownership of the bank's engineering function. You'll lead the build-out of secure, scalable, and reliable tech that powers its banking and FinTech products.
This is a senior leadership position blending architecture, delivery, modernisation, and people management. You'll partner closely with Product, Business, and IT Operations to turn business needs into solid technical solutions, while raising the bar on engineering standards across the board.

What You'll Do

• Take full ownership of the software development lifecycle - architecture, coding standards, code reviews, secure development, and technical debt
• Shape the engineering roadmap together with Product and Business, turning requirements into scalable solutions
• Own and improve CI/CD pipelines and release engineering - builds, automated testing, deployment, and handover to production
• Push forward technology and platform modernisation, evaluating new frameworks, languages, tools, and practices
• Set and uphold quality standards for applications and integrations - test coverage, defect handling, code review discipline, secure coding
• Build processes to identify, prioritise, and pay down technical debt
• Make sure every engineering solution is built with security, reliability, scalability, and maintainability in mind, fitting a regulated banking environment
• Lead, coach, and grow the engineering team, fostering ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Handle engineering talent end-to-end - hiring, performance, career growth, succession planning

Requirements

• Solid background in software engineering and technical leadership, ideally in banking, FinTech, payments, or another regulated environment
• Track record leading development teams, owning both people and delivery
• Strong grasp of software architecture, system design, integration patterns, and modern development practices;
• Hands-on knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, release engineering, and DevOps
• Experience setting up coding standards, review processes, quality controls, and secure development practices
• A history of driving modernisation and reducing technical debt in complex, business-critical setups
• Ability to turn business and product needs into clear technical direction and priorities
• Solid understanding of software security and what's expected in a regulated environment
• Professional working English.
